Rubber Grass Mat Installation

1. Mark out the area you wish to install the rubber grass mats . Cut the existing grass short, removing all clippings and debris.

2. Level out any uneven areas by filling them with a 70:30 mix of topsoil : sharp sand. This should then be compacted and seeded if necessary, seeded following the seed coverage instructions set out seed supplier.

3. If you are also using a grass protection mesh, it should be installed at this stage. Grass protection mesh is good for areas that are prone to becoming wet and muddy. It acts as a ground stabilization method under the mats. The mesh should be rolled out over the area and fixed with U Pins around the perimeter at 50cm intervals.

4. Lay out the rubber grass mats on the prepared area, cutting them to fit around any play equipment or other obstacles.

5. If you are installing a number of rubber grass mat, the mats will need to be installed tightly against each other. Using the cable ties, fasten the edges together at 150 mm intervals, trimming long stands of the fixed cable ties so that they are not creating a hazard by being exposed above the surface of the mats.

6. Whilst fixing the edges with cable ties, fix the rubber grass mats to the ground with plastic fixing pegs at intervals of 500 mm. This will help to secure the mats into place.

7. OPTIONAL Edge blending where a discreet grass to rubber interface is required

a. Utilizing a spade or half-moon edging instrument, cut an opening into the ground along the edge of the elastic grass tangles and to a profundity of around 75 mm. 

b. Move back the edge of the elastic grass mats. Utilizing a spade and beginning roughly 150mm from the opening and working far from the moved back mat, cut a wedged molded cut of turf (holding wedge where required) leaving a wedge formed uncovered soil channel. Proceed with this operation around the border of the elastic grass mats where edge mixing is required. 

c. Roll the edge of the elastic grass mats down into the uncovered wedge molded channel. Pin the edge to the ground through the little gaps in the mat with plastic settling pegs at interim of 500 mm. 

d. Refill the presented inclined edge to its unique ground level with topsoil, then trim a layer of soil from the held turf to give it a fitting thickness (approx 50mm), then re-bed the turf over the filled elastic grass tangles and firm it into spot to give a watchful edge. 


8. After some time, the grass will become through and spread the openings of the elastic grass mats. This ought to take roughly 4-6 weeks amid the grass developing season, it can then be mow as should be expected.
